Welcome Friends!

Welcome to my blog.

In case you aren't familiar with my neck of the woods or what being a hillbilly means or maybe you are under the misconception that we look and act like the characters out of the 'Lil Abner' comic strip.

Well maybe we do act a little like some of them and there are a few of us that might look like some of the local folk of Dogpatch. But mostly we are just like everybody else.

I've read that some associate hillbilly with being backwards. Well we do like things simple. We are mostly a laid back bunch although there is a little redneck in some of us.

It's not a requirement but most hillbilly's live in the country on a little piece of land. We grow a garden and can and put up the food we grow. We do not hunt for sport. We eat what we kill.

Deer and Wild Turkey are favorites. As a kid we ate more rabbit and squirrel than we do now. And we fish. Bass, perch, crappie and catfish, my favorite, are just a few.

I know in the old days possum was eaten but if you happen to live in an area where you are around possums you know what I mean when I say -

We do eat well though and I plan on sharing some really good recipes with you.

The Ozarks are just a beautiful place to live. There is so much history and so many things to see and do.

We have Branson and Silver Dollar City and though they are very commercialized now days, they didn't start out be'in that way, they use to represent the hillbilly way of life.

We have lots of lakes and rivers ( two of the largest in the country) and natural springs. And don't forget the caves. Lots of caves to explore.

Here's a few pictures .

When I was a kid there were a lot of places like these old buildings and people actually lived in them. Not many of them left anymore.

Lots of woods and hollers look like this.

When you're a kid walking through places like this it can be a little scary.

Lots of bluffs like these along the river banks.

And speaking of rivers, ain't this beautiful?

Do you see the blue Heron in the background?

I think one of the prettiest sites is a newly mowed and baled field.

There are plenty of ridges to get good views.

Too pretty, course I'm prejudiced.

How about you, have you been to the Ozarks to see any of our purty countryside?

Do you know how to tell if you pass a hillbilly in a car on the road? He waves. Yep, every time.

You'll be meeting a car and the driver waves. Pretty much bet it's a hillbilly you're passing there.

Be sure and wave back.

You'uns come back dreckly, ya hear

Gorgeous pictures! I think the Ozarks are a wonderful place to live too. I'm just a little south of you in the Arkansas part of the Ozark Mountains.
Thanks for the visit to my blog! :)
